What is a freelance copywriter?

Perhaps you are like my dad who said to me many years ago, “I know you’re a writer, but I have no idea what you do.” Fair enough. A freelance copywriter is a self-employed professional who writes material for businesses and organizations on a contract basis. Companies hire freelance copywriters to create content to help inform or persuade their customers. Examples of materials a copywriter might create include website content, press releases, social media posts, annual reports, white papers, case studies, newsletters, e-mails, etc.

Should I hire a freelance copywriter?

That depends on the needs of your company. Many businesses both large and small use highly talented freelance copywriters to supplement in house writing or to create most marketing materials. In an era of company downsizing, a freelance copywriter can save a company time and money because they have the skill set to write quickly and the company is not paying them a salary, health insurance, benefits, etc. For many organizations, the benefits of working with a quality freelance copywriter create a win-win situation.

How will you understand my business well enough to write convincing copy?

Because I value my client’s image, I make it my mission to understand my client’s business. Yes, I will need to get some information from you and I often do background research to supplement my writing. I have a very specific process for asking the right questions so that I can understand my client’s business well enough to write concise and convincing copy. I find that often times, having an outside perspective can help companies convey their material in a fresh way that makes sense to the general public. My goal is to create content that retains the client’s authentic voice without sacrificing an ounce of quality.

How much do you charge?

In most cases, I charge a flat fee for each project. While this fee is based on an hourly rate, I do not like to charge client’s an hourly fee for my work because I want them to know exactly what it’s going to cost them before the project begins. I believe in complete honesty and transparency. To request a copy of my fee schedule including price ranges for typical projects, please contact me. If you have a project that requires ongoing and variable needs, an hourly rate is sometimes a better option. I also offer project bundle discounts for businesses that are looking to do multiple projects at the same time.

What do you need to get started on a project?

Before we start working together, I will need you to sign a bid proposal which outlines exactly what the project entails and what you can expect from me including a deadline for project completion. This agreement serves to protect both parties. I also ask that you pay 50% of the flat project fee before I begin working with you. Again, this is to protect my time and assures you that I am financially committed to your project. After that, I will have you fill out a brief but thorough questionnaire to help me understand everything about your project. Once any additional questions are clarified and we are sure that we are on the same page, I will begin working to create a quality finished product.

How long will it take to complete my project?

Of course that depends on the size and scope of the project, but in most cases projects can be completed within 2 weeks. Larger website designs and reports require more time, but I will work with you to find a deadline that works for both of us. All client bid proposals include a project deadline and I have never turned in a late project.

How do you handle revisions?

I work hard to keep my clients happy. If you are not happy with the completed project, I will make revisions until you are satisfied that the work fits your company’s needs.

Do you take on rush projects?
